When I read about the families of our fallen service members coming together to honor their lost loved ones, it broke my heart. Their pain and anguish are unimaginable. And then, I saw Donald Trump’s post, gloating about how he was there for them, how he was the one who took pictures with them at Arlington National Cemetery. It made me sick to my stomach.
Trump thinks this is some kind of victory for him, some way to prove that he’s so much better than the current administration. But let me tell you, there’s nothing heroic about exploiting the grief of others for your own political gain.
And let’s be clear, this isn’t about Kamala Harris or Joe Biden. This isn’t some partisan fight. This is about the families of our fallen heroes, and the fact that we’ve allowed this country to become a place where their sacrifices are used as weapons against one another.
Our service members deserve so much better than this. They deserve to have their loved ones protected and respected. They deserve to have leaders who will fight for them, not against them. And most importantly, they deserve to have their memory honored in a way that is meaningful and dignified.
So, to all the families out there who have lost a loved one to war, I see you. I hear you. And I stand with you, in defiance of the cynics and the opportunists who would use your pain for their own gain. We will not be silenced. We will not be ignored. And we will not let the memory of our fallen heroes be sullied by the likes of Donald Trump.
We are women, and we will rise.
